Hogan's Heroes

The Gasoline War - S5-E4

Continuity mistake: When the man and woman from the underground meet Hogan at the Hoffbrau, they're taking off their outer coats. The man takes off a dark brown coat and drops it. Hogan picks it up, hands it to the guy who hangs it up. The man removes his dark brown overcoat revealing a tan coat. The next shot, he"s taking off the dark brown coat again, hangs it up and goes for beer.

The Merry Widow - S5-E24

Continuity mistake: As Schultz marches in with the Kraut platoon, he reports to Klink. As he goes to stand at attention and report, the new tunnel section he's over collapses, and he completely disappears into the hole. The camera goes to a close up on Klink, then back to the hole, and you see Schultz standing in the hole and it's only chest deep.

Suggested correction: There is no mistake. That was not the end of the gun barrel. Look closely.

Bombsight - S5-E7

Continuity mistake: All through the episode, we are in a snowy, wintry camp surrounded by hills and trees. The target Gen. Burkhalter points out however is a little shed on a flat-as-a-board prairie with not a flake of snow OR a single hill visible anywhere, and the brown grass of late summer. (Yes I noticed there are some mountains off in the distance. So not relevant for this mistake).

Klink's Escape - S5-E26

Continuity mistake: When Klink is "taken hostage" in the barracks, he is in his tunic only. Later in the car he has his overcoat on. He was supposed to be kidnapped, he could hardly ask Hogan to let him slip into his office for his coat.

Trivia: A sinister aspect of an otherwise lightheated comedy, but the fact is that Hogan and his men are war criminals. They engage in combat activities behind enemy lines when not in uniform, and worse, while wearing enemy uniforms. The Germans tried that during the Battle of the Bulge and those arrested were shot.

Answer: It's a slang term for an isolated jail cell. In wartime, POWs who attempted to escape or otherwise thwart their captors might be punished with solitary confinement, often in a cramped, poorly ventilated, windowless space.
