Torchwood

Trivia: The hand preserved in a glass jar in the Torchwood HQ is the severed hand of Doctor Who which he lost in a duel during the Christmas special. The hand features quite prominently in episode 1 but can also be seen in the background in most episodes.

Trivia: The amnesia drug that Torchwood uses is called "Retcon," which is short for "retroactive continuity," a common occurrance in science fiction shows when a writer changes something about the established history of the series.

From Out Of The Rain - S2-E10

Trivia: For this episode, writer Peter J. Hammond borrowed his own idea - from a story he first used in the 1979 Sapphire & Steel series. There, ghosts from old photographs came to life and could trap the living inside the pictures. Here, very similar mischief is afoot, with the ghosts coming out of old silent films instead.

Day One - S1-E2

Trivia: When Jack leaves the club, followed by the Torchwood team, and they head into an alley, there are human legs sticking out of a dustbin. These are extraneous to the plot, and never mentioned onscreen, despite Torchwood surveying the area. (00:13:05)

Captain Jack Harkness - S1-E12

Trivia: The "Mister Saxon" references from series 3 of Doctor Who spill into its spin off series in this episode, as a "Vote Saxon" poster can be seen on the wall of the abandoned dance hall.

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang - S2-E1

Trivia: When the team arrive at the bar, Captain John Hart (played by James Masters) comments that there is no blond in the gang - perhaps a reference to Buffy, leader of the other gang Masters belonged to in Sunnydale.

Captain Jack Harkness - S1-E12

Factual error: When Gwen finds Toshiko's hidden message from 1941, she realizes that it was written in blood, and her flashlight reveals the bright red letters on the now-yellowed piece of paper. But after 60+ years, the iron in the blood would oxidize. The writing on the note should be rust-brown, not red. (00:33:40)

Answer: He might have requisitioned or stolen it from Torchwood London, or he might have been ready down below once it'd been severed, searching for "the right Doctor" and not knowing that the newly-regenerated Doctor was the one he was looking for.
