Red Dwarf

Show generally

Deliberate mistake: In the first few series, it is suggested Lister and Kochanski barely know each other. In 'Balance of Power' Holly says that Lister has only ever spoken 173 words to her. However, by series 4 Kochanski is referred to as Lister's ex-girlfriend with whom he shared a relationship. In the series 4 documentary, Doug Naylor explains that Lister's attitude towards Kochanski was immature in the first series which is why they changed his back story from wanting to be with Kochanski to actually having been with her by series 4.

Timeslides - S3-E5

Deliberate mistake: The Eagle on Hitler's briefcase is that of the (post war) Federal Republic of (West) Germany - not that of the Nazi German Third Reich. This was deliberate - showing the Third Reich Nazi emblem of an eagle holding a swastika would have had the episode banned in Germany, Austria, Poland and any number of other European countries. Skipper - S12-E6

Plot hole: Kryten explains that the quantum skipper must be recharged after every use, and the time this takes must be must be taken into account. This is an important plot device the first time Rimmer uses it, but it is conveniently forgotten for the rest of the episode.

Suggested correction: Kryten said what he believed to be true based on purely theoretical work. No evidence is presented that he'd tested the skipper "for real." Its ability to hold charge on subsequent jumps was better than he'd anticipated.

Read the posting again. "This is an important plot device the first time Rimmer uses it..." It was not only stated but demonstrated that the time skipper must be recharged each time it is used.

Watch the episode again. The need to recharge the skipper was stated but not demonstrated.

White Hole - S4-E4

Rimmer: The thing about Captain Oates... The thing you have to remember about Captain Oates... Captain Oates... Captain Oates was a prat.

More trivia for Red Dwarf

Answer: Presumably he does, but it's never been used in any material related to the show. He is the only Cat left (as shown in Series 1), so even if he had once had a name, nobody would know it.

Moose

Answer: In the book, the Cat finds the concept of a name confusing, as he's convinced he's the center of the universe and the idea that someone wouldn't know who he was is baffling.
