Toy Story (1995)

Toy Story mistake picture

Revealing mistake: When Woody falls out of the closet wrapped in the string lights he hears Buzz's voice, and in the next shot as Woody sneaks up to Hannah's room we see Sid's open door and doorway, which looks perfectly normal. However, after Woody rescues Buzz from Hannah's tea party they both stop in the hallway, and there's another shot of Sid's open door and doorway, only this time it's not normal to say the least. All six of the latches, bolts, and locks that are normally attached to the inside of Sid's door are now actually kind of floating there in mid-air right beside the doorway, as if there's an invisible door there. Weird that Pixar artists deliberately did this, but it's bizarrely funny to see.

New this week Suggested correction: This is just wrong, you can see the latches are screwed to the door frame and fold over to the door, the open one on the "door closed" shot is a good example, they aren't floating, they are attached to the frame.

New this week To say they're attached to the frame and fold over doesn't even make sense. That's not how deadbolt locks work. Each lock has 2 parts, 1 part is attached to the frame (a receiving end) and the 2nd part is attached to the door (the deadbolt). However, in the picture, the part that's suppose to attach to the door isn't. If you "fold it" over, to close the door, you would then have to screw them into the door. And you'd have a deadbolt that can bend in half.

Bishop73

New this week Thank you, Bishop73, for your reply to the suggested correction. I didn't even know how to begin to refute its nonsensical explanation (shaking my head in dismay).

From Here to the Pharmacy - S7-E12

Character mistake: Blanche is at the pharmacy talking to her boyfriend who is the pharmacist. A woman comes in talking about her son having a fever. He goes behind the counter and gives her a bottle of medicine which she somehow doesn't have to pay for.

New this month Suggested correction: I do believe that was actually the whole point. Bill tells Blanche that although he was a hero when he served in the Persian Gulf, in the States he is just an ordinary guy. When the distraught woman rushes in she says, "Señor Bill," so she obviously knows Bill, and when she tells him about her son's fever, he helps by giving her an over-the-counter medicine for the fever, free of charge, then tells her the name and address of a doctor if the boy's fever persists. Because of Bill's kindness, Blanche tells him he is still a hero even out of the military.

13 Ghosts (2001)

Corrected entry: If the young boy ghost was killed by an arrow while playing cowboys and indians as the "Ghost files" on the DVD says, then why is he in an Indian costume? Shouldn't he be in a cowboy outfit?

Correction: This is a question not a mistake. And the correction doesn't even relate to the entry at all.

amycamille1975

Correction: Billy is not "in an Indian costume" strictly speaking, he's actually wearing bits of both cowboy and Indian costumes while he was playing that day he was killed. He liked to dress up as both a cowboy as well as an Indian (during the "Ghost Files" montage, there's an illustration of Billy with his mother seated at the table, and he's wearing a headress with a bow and arrows lying on the floor near him). The day Billy was killed he was wearing a cowboy shirt, a bolo tie at his collar, with a toy gun holster and his cap gun around his waist, and Billy was also wearing a single feather Indian headress on his head, holding a tomahawk in his hand. As for the original correction regarding how Billy was killed, we are shown in the "Ghost Files" montage that the neighbor boy, who had his father's real bow and steel-tipped arrow, shot Billy through the back of his head.

Correction: The boy was shooting into the sky, and what goes up, will go down. Or he was killed by "friendly fire".

A Taxing Problem - S4-E14

Corrected entry: Marcy says she paid her cousin 5 dollars to take her to prom. In an earlier episode when she was making fun of the person who took her to prom, Steve said wait, "I took you to prom." Marcy turned to Steve and said "yes you did." So who took her to prom? Her cousin or Steve?

twstr988

Correction: It's entirely possible she attended more than one prom; I attended two different proms at two different schools in my senior year of high school.

zendaddy621

I guess that could be also.

twstr988

Correction: Why is this in the corrections section? should be in the question section.

amycamille1975

This was not submitted as a question, it was submitted as a mistake, then it was corrected with a valid correction. Sometimes mistakes such as plot holes or continuity errors include wording in the form of a question, but that does not make them questions.

Corrected entry: In Transfiguration class when professor McGonagall is explaining the lesson you can see that the instructions are mirrored on the blackboard. (00:54:18)

Correction: There are two chalkboards in Professor McGonagall's classroom, both with the same chalk drawings and instructional writing, though the chalkboard on the right has everything backwards on the board. However, none of the actual shots during this scene are flipped, not the closeups, medium shots, or the long shots. Note the part in McGonagall's hair, etc., stays consistent throughout. For whatever their reasons, the filmmakers decided to have identical chalkboards at both sides of the desk, and one with the reverse writing and images as its twin.

Super Grover Premium member

And since it's a class about casting spells it's not unlikely McGonagall wrote it in mirror on purpose. Perhaps they need to learn to read mirror since a lot of spells and spellbooks are written like that, a common myth surrounding spells.

Suggested correction: You're mistaken, she has the same luggage, please rewatch those scenes. While Carrie packs up (she tags all her bags with pink ribbons) and later when they arrive at Abu Dhabi, her bags consist of a set of blue luggage, and one pink leopard suitcase from Vivienne Westwood's collection. At the end, when Carrie arrives back at her apartment, the pink leopard suitcase is sitting on the floor just as the doorman sets down two of the blue suitcases.

Top Gear (2002)

Patagonia Special: Part 1 - S21-E8

Revealing mistake: On their boat trip to Tierra del Fuego there are a number of sweeping overhead shots of the ferry upon which Clarkson, Hammond and May are travelling. Their very distinctive cars are not on deck. There is nowhere on the only deck that they could be under cover. The footage of the ferry was filmed on a different voyage.

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: This isn't something they hide. Behind the scenes interviews make it quite clear that they have a B unit that films additional footage of the areas they travel in. They even take the cars back to get more shots of them on the road, since they can't predict the exact routes that will be taken in order to have camera crews ahead of them in time.

The mistake is perfectly valid. The correction is only providing an excuse as to why the mistake occurs. Most films have a second unit director and crew (the "B unit") solely to film supplemental footage. This does not invalidate the point of the mistake, that "their distinctive cars are not on deck" where they should be.

Super Grover Premium member

Since they cut to and from shots of Hammond, May and Clarkson standing on the deck of the boat the implication is clear - the shots are continuous. It is a glaring error.

Continuity mistake: When the young girl is on the beach removing her socks, she takes three socks off.

Jack Bares All (a.k.a. Oh, Nurse) (2) - S6-E2

Character mistake: When they're getting ready to make fun of Teri, and Jack is going to press the glasses onto Teri's face that leaves the rings under her eyes, he calls her "Tammy."

ckbyers
Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: Jack is being as overtly obnoxious as can be, and the "Tammy" was quite deliberate on his part. Jack also did not pronounce Terri correctly, but instead pronounced it like "Teary" just to emphasize the obnoxious behavior (when Jack feels bad while holding the seltzer bottle he pronounces her name correctly).

Super Grover Premium member

I respectfully disagree with that synopsis - being obnoxious doesn't mean you purposely mispronounce a name. Seems that if it was on purpose, one of the cast (in character) would have corrected him. Some things slip through editing due to time frames and reshoots.

ckbyers

Suggested correction: This has already been submitted and has been sitting in the corrections section for some time with a few different answers. Nobody knows the real answer but some good possibilities have been submitted.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom mistake picture

Visible crew/equipment: After Willie spits in Indy's face it cuts to Short Round running through the mine, and just as Shorty turns his head toward the camera behind him, we can see two crewmembers and a tall spotlight at the right side of the screen. One is wearing a solid blue shirt and a cap, and the other a blue/white striped shirt and white pants. (01:21:25)

Suggested correction: This takes place in milliseconds and there's no way to see it unless you pause the image or play it in slo-mo. It should be under trivia.

Sacha Premium member

Right now I have it playing on Netflix, and there is no slow motion. The striped blue shirt is noticeable as it plays without any slo-mo. If something catches my eye onscreen, it is fair game to go back and rewatch what was noticed in the first place. And in order for me to confirm what I find, I do pause, and may take screenshots. By the way, I've seen this movie countless times over the years, and it was just a matter of catching that glimpse of the color blue because it popped out against the dreary surroundings. I'll leave it up to Jon whether to move it to trivia or not.

The One With The Metaphorical Tunnel - S3-E4

Revealing mistake: While Chandler and Janice are in D'Agostino's, some grocery products have their names partially covered, such as Uncle Ben's and Grape Nuts.

Super Grover Premium member
Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: I've seen a few of these listed as errors, but they're not. A lot of shows do this often if you pay attention. It's called "product displacement", and it is done to avoid being sued or having to pay licensing fees. Also, it is cheaper to alter logos like this than pixelate/blur them out. What is interesting though, is that one of the grape nut boxes in this picture does not have an altered logo.

Yes, it's product displacement, and this is specifically referred to as the "greeking" process. However, your correction only offers an excuse as to why this occurs. The tape or paint partially or fully covering the brand names or logos are a distraction, and it removes viewers from the fake reality of the show or movie. Originally, these types of submissions were to be listed in trivia, but instead they were placed in the mistake section.

Star Wars (1977)

Star Wars mistake picture

Continuity mistake: After the Stormtrooper tells Darth Vader the Death Star plans are not in the main computer, when Vader lifts the Rebel off his feet by his throat as the Rebel tells him they intercepted no transmissions, take note of the leg plates on the Stormtrooper to Vader's right. In the wideshot, the Stormtrooper's left leg armor does not have the knee protector plate (it looks as if it's at his right knee because the extra switched them), but in the next closeup the knee plate appears at his left knee, as it should be. (00:05:40)

Super Grover Premium member
Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: The perspective of this comment is incorrect. The trooper behind the boots of the lifted character is the one pointed out in the first image. You can't see his knees.

The correction is simply wrong. This is quite clear when watching the scene. The Stormtrooper who as is stated in the correction, "behind the boots of the lifted character" is only blocked in the provided screenshot, and we do actually see his legs in the shot. He is standing in the doorway (to the left) with a dark hall behind him, and the other Stormtrooper with the problem leg plates is standing beside the tall console (torpedo shaped) near the doorway to the right. When the Rebel tells Vader, "We intercepted no transmissions," we see both Stormtroopers and their legs, then in the next shot as the Rebel continues, "This is a consular ship," we see the legs of both Stormtroopers, and the one on the right has the continuity issue with the leg plates.

Jaws (1975)

Factual error: When Hooper sees the hole in the hull of Ben Gardner's boat, he uses his knife to pry out the shark tooth. The tooth is located at the bottom of the hole, with its flat root side stuck deep in the wood and its pointy side facing up. It is completely impossible for the shark's tooth to become wedged in the wood this way, while he takes a nice bite out of the wood hull. (00:49:15)

Super Grover Premium member
Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: When Hooper uses the knife to pry to tooth out, it took very little effort, suggesting that the tooth wasn't wedged into that spot, but merely just resting in that spot.

The original mistake says that the root of the tooth was embedded In the wood. Not possible since it should be the sharp end in the wood and the root showing on top (as described in the mistake).

Ssiscool Premium member

The shark tooth was inserted into the wood by the prop crew with its flat root side down, which would have been impossible to have occurred during the attack on the hull. As to the statement that the tooth was "merely just resting in that spot" then it would have floated away during the hours after the attack, but it didn't so it must have been at the very least snugly fit into the wood hull. Still impossible.

Paddington 2 (2017)

Corrected entry: At the beginning of this film, Paddington is shown living with two adult bears. The Explorer gives them their names, and introduces them to marmalade sandwiches. In Paddington 2, the bears are shown on a bridge, eating marmalade sandwiches and referring to each other by name before they see the little bear on the log, who is young Paddington.

Correction: At the start of the first "Paddington" movie, during the black-and-white film footage of the "The Explorer" Montgomery Clyde, the only bears Clyde meets are the two adult bears, whom he teaches to speak English and names Pastuzo and Lucy. Clyde's film footage ends as he says farewell to the two adult bears and tosses his hat to Pastuzo. Then it cuts to "many years later" and we see Paddington (he is not yet named Paddington at this point in time) already living comfortably with Uncle Pastuzo and Aunt Lucy, making their homemade marmalade. It's at the start of the sequel "Paddington 2" we are shown how Pastuzo and Lucy, who are fluent in English, originally found the tiny bear cub at the bridge, and adopted him. There is no mistake.

Mr. Bean (1989)

Merry Christmas Mr. Bean - S1-E10

Corrected entry: Mr Bean gives the collection tin back to the salvation army band leader when it is full - there is a girl with long ginger hair standing to the left behind Mr Bean wearing a black coat. The band leader asks Mr Bean to hold the baton while he puts the collection tin in his car - the ginger haired girl is now wearing a red coat and holding a bouquet of flowers, but when the band leader returns, the girl is back to wearing the black coat and her flowers have disappeared.

Correction: Please rewatch the scene, because they are not the same person. During this scene we see three young women with ginger-blonde hair. The first has very long hair and she's wearing a black coat, standing behind the band leader in front of the fruit stand. The second has hair just past her shoulders and she's also wearing a black coat, holding a basket of flowers, but she's standing behind the band, opposite the band leader. The third has short hair, wearing a short red coat, holding flowers, also standing near the fruit stand. This is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.

Super Grover Premium member

Correction: The girl is wearing a black coat throughout all the scenes.

Even if the coat remains the same, the part about flowers remains.

Ssiscool Premium member

The mistake is valid and I think the corrector is looking at the wrong girl. Although it's hard to tell if the girl in red is the same as the girl in black, but either way the girl in the mistake either disappears and reappears or does go from red to black.
