Other mistake: When Andrew does his run around the second floor of the library he passes by a state flag with a confederate emblem on it. The film is supposed to take place in Illinois, that state was part of the Union, not the Confederacy.

Suggested correction: This isn't a mistake. It was the Georgia State flag. But the library has several different flags that we see, so it would make sense the library simply had all the State flags hanging around. Not to mention this was filmed in an actual Illinois high school.

Independence Day (1996)

Other mistake: When David asks Major Mitchell if he can shoot the soda can, Major Mitchell has to ask a nearby sergeant for his sidearm, despite already having one on him when he shot the alien earlier.

Suggested correction: He probably shot his own gun empty or nearly empty, so he removed the magazine. They fired at least 10 shots at the alien, and he planted another 3 in it up close.

Continuity mistake: The large sandstorm that Furiosa charges into is nowhere to be seen minutes before when Nux backs up in reverse.

Superman (1978)

Revealing mistake: Look carefully at the train when Superman is using himself to hold up the track during the earthquake. It's obvious the wheels of the train are not even touching the track as they pass over him.

Superman (1978)

Plot hole: When Superman goes after the missile that's heading for New Jersey he leaves Metropolis (which is actually New York City). He would have met the missile head on, but he appears to catch up to the missile from behind and while it's still over territory somewhere around the Grand Canyon, so he probably could have stopped both missiles before the second one hit the fault line.

The Evil Dead (1981)

Revealing mistake: When everyone in the car pulls off the bridge at the beginning they're on the path to the cabin but when Ash and his sister leave the cabin to go back to the bridge suddenly they're speeding down a gravel road.

Visible crew/equipment: When the Coast Guard Captain is looking through her binoculars at the yacht the camera switches to the binoculars' point of view to show the yacht in the distance. The front of another boat is visible just below the back of yacht, this couldn't be the front of the coast guard vessel so it would have to be whatever the film crew was using to get the binoculars' point of view of the yacht probably just a few feet away.

Goldfinger (1964)

Plot hole: Goldfinger wasn't planning on Mr. Solo breaking away from the rest of the gangsters before Goldfinger could have them all killed by the nerve gas so it makes no sense that there would already be a truck from the stud farm waiting for Oddjob to drive back with the remains of the crushed car. It also begs the question if Oddjob had to drive the truck back to the farm where is the guy that drove it to the junkyard in the first place?

Cast Away (2000)

Trivia: The alarm heard from the cargo ship that rescues Chuck is the same alarm at the steel works factory near the end of "Terminator 2."

Question: It's stated by Vader in the previous film how much he wanted to capture Luke for the Emperor by using the carbonite freezer. Boba Fett knew this. So why didn't Boba Fett take Luke into his custody to take him back to Vader instead of letting Jabba kill him with the sarlac pit?

jbrbbt

Answer: Boba did attempt to grapple Luke with his whipcord.

kayelbe

Answer: Luke was a Jedi Master. He knew taking him wouldn't easy. Bobo Fett went after thugs, aliens he knew would be easy to catch. Besides, the bounty he received would have made him wealthy, plus he stayed with Jabba, which means he was on his payroll.

Question: Luke gets everyone together at Jabba's palace in order to rescue Han Solo. Why didn't Luke just get a bunch of Rebel fighters to storm the palace? They had the fleet available, so they could have easily overpowered Jabba and his guards without having to resort to risking all of his friends in an overly complicated rescue attempt, and they wouldn't have had to bother with the whole sarlac pit fight at all.

jbrbbt

Answer: The fleet was getting ready for the final battle to destroy the new Death Star. Rescuing Han was a personal rescue mission for Luke and Leia. As far as the fleet was concerned Han was a causality of war. Quote "The sacrificing of one individual to save millions is the corner stone of any civilisation."

Character mistake: Why didn't Joe, Connie, and the students just run back down to the front entrance of the school? They had plenty of time instead of making the effort of going to the roof.

jbrbbt

Suggested correction: No, they couldn't. They barely made it to the roof on time and that was closer than the front entrance.

The Mummy (1999)

Plot hole: If the Medjai are supposed to be the guardians against Imhotep and sworn to make sure he never comes back to life then why weren't they in possession of the key that opened everything in the first place?

jbrbbt

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: Because it got lost in the centuries that passed. It's possible they don't even know every step on how the mummy can return.

Speed (1994)

Other mistake: "Tuneman" has no actual license plate on his car, just the same vanity plate on front and back.

Suggested correction: The Jaguar owner has personalized plates, and the rear license plate has the registration tabs (stickers) affixed to it, the month (Nov) at the left and the yellow tab with the year at the right.

Factual error: It wouldn't have mattered that Ritter had his "autographed get out of jail free card" given to him by Cutter or authorized by the President, it was still an illegal operation that Congress didn't know about. Anyone involved in it would be going to prison regardless of position.

jbrbbt

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: The point Ritter is making is the operation was personally authorized by the President behind closed doors. If Cutter and Ritter were arrested for their involvement, they would be pardoned by the President. The President of the United States has the authority to pardon someone even before they have been charged with a federal crime, as Gerald Ford did for Richard Nixon. Jack doesn't have this protection because he is to be the scapegoat if the scandal is exposed.

Speed (1994)

Plot hole: What exactly is the point in Jack speeding up the subway car? He says so it can jump the track but the track wasn't finished anyway. Speeding up the subway at that point would make no difference, he should have just let the subway continue at the speed it was going.

Die Hard 2 (1990)

Plot hole: There is no way the airport personnel could have kept everything going on quiet from the thousands of civilians in the airport. Even if nobody heard the shootout between McClane and the terrorists at the baggage area someone would have found out about the crashing of the Windsor flight.

Trivia: The sound effect of the alarm heard when the liquid nitrogen truck crashes in the steel works factory is the same sound effect heard from the cargo ship that rescues Tom Hanks near the end of "Cast Away."
