Continuity mistake: At the cemetery, as Frank grabs Ray the ghost to pull him from his grave, the grave diggers are seen shoveling dirt into the half-filled hole. A few seconds later, Frank yanks Ray out and the grave is now completely filled and the grave diggers are gone.

Question: What did the term, "tying your shoe" mean?

raywest Premium member

Chosen answer: It means you need to avoid getting caught in the crossfire. Originally, terms like "tying your shoe" or "pulling your socks up" meant ducking to avoid flying bullets. In a more generic sense though, it needn't be about gun violence per se. Just that you don't want to be on the receiving end of violence meant for someone else. In the movie, this was a way of telling Edward that if he could not defuse the situation, then others would be forced to harm the professor. Here, they weren't actually going to put Edward in harm's way. But if he failed to change the professor, then violence against the professor was forthcoming.

Inside Man (2006)

Question: Was the bank employee who was taken into the back room and "beaten" one of the robbers? If not, was he actually hit or was it fake like the "shot" hostage? I couldn't tell if he was one of the ones in the car at the end.

raywest Premium member

Chosen answer: The beating was real and no he wasn't one of the robbers. The men who participated in the hold up along with Clive Owen's character were all much younger than the employee who was beaten up. The much older guy in the car was not part of the robbery.

Lummie Premium member

Actually the guy that was beaten WAS part of the robbery. The 4 involved were they guy that was beaten, the guy that was Algerian that asked for a glass of water bc his throat was "parched, " the big breasted girl that said she violated "section 34 double d" and Clive Owen, obviously. If you check the credits on IMDB you will see that the guy that was beaten was Steve-O. They are all listed. The girl was Stevie and the other guy was Steve.

What about the rabbi?

I think he means peter Hammond.

Not Algerian...Armenian. They asked if he was Albanian. He said no, Armenian...but I was born in Queens, I don't know the difference.

Vertigo (1958)

Continuity mistake: Directly outside Scotty's living room window is an uninterrupted view of Coit Tower and Telegraph Hill. However, when the apartment is seen from the outside, there is a building across from where the window would be and Coit Tower is much further to the right.

General questions

Who was the noted film director that was killed about 10-15 years ago when a large rock was thrown from a street overpass and smashed through his car windshield? He probably would have been in his 70s or 80s by now.

raywest Premium member

Chosen answer: This is the only thing I found close: "November 19, 1998: Film director Alan Pakula (70) was killed while driving on the Long Island Expressway east of New York City. He lost control of his Volvo and crashed into a fence after a metal pipe crashed through his windshield. The pipe, which had been lying on the highway, was kicked up by another car. Pakula was taken to the North Shore Hospital in Plainview, New York, where he was pronounced dead. Pakula directed films such as Klute and All the President's Men." This site lists famous people that died in car accidents and that was the only director that died from something flying through his windshield.http://www.celebratetoday.com/autoceleb.html

Continuity mistake: As the boys leave in the helicopter at the end of the film, it says "BEATLES" on the aircraft's door. The name is split into two different sections to fit on the sliding panels. A few seconds later, one half of the name is missing, leaving only "BEA" on the left-hand side.

Trivia: Herbert Marshall, who played Bette Davis' husband, Horace Giddens, lost a leg in WWI and wore a prosthetic limb. In the scene where he is desperately attempting to get upstairs to get his medication (otherwise he will die), he briefly goes off camera and is replaced by a stunt double who attempts to crawl up the staircase.

The One With The Cheap Wedding Dress - S7-E17

Continuity mistake: Monica chooses a wedding dress at an expensive boutique, then later goes to a discount store to buy the same style dress at a half-off sale. The dress she buys is different from the one in the boutique, having wider and frillier straps. When she tries it on later at the apartment, it is now the same style as the one at the boutique. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix mistake picture

Plot hole: Harry can now see the thestral creatures because he witnessed Cedric Diggory's death in "Goblet of Fire." However, he should have been able to see the thestrals after Professor Quirrell died from Harry's touch in "Philosopher's Stone". Quirrell crumbles into dust (dying) while Harry is still conscious, watching, and fully aware of what he is seeing, thus allowing it to fully sink into his consciousness. Harry faints "after" Quirrell is dead and as Voldemort's spirit passes through his body. Nor does it only have to be a friend or loved one who dies before the thestrals can be seen - it can be anyone, including an enemy like Quirrell. There only has to be an emotional response to the death, which can be love, hate, fear, shock, etc. (In the book, Harry did not see Quirrell die, but that's irrelevant to the film).

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix mistake picture

Continuity mistake: In the opening aerial shot of the playground, the landscape surrounding it is flat, devoid of any shrubbery, and there are no buildings or streets nearby. In the close-up shots with Harry and Dudley that are shown from various angles, there are now houses, small hilly mounds, bushes, and a road in the background. (00:00:50)

Trivia: The barman seen with the goat at the shabby Hog's Head Inn where Harry and Hermione hold the first Dumbledore's Army meeting is Aberforth Dumbledore, Albus' brother. In the novels he runs the Hog's Head Inn and was investigated for performing improper magic on goats. (This was confirmed by J.K. Rowling in an online chat at The Leaky Cauldron.)

Factual error: When Red Pollard is showing the doctor his homemade brace, his bare leg shows no sign of having been nearly severed or of undergoing multiple surgeries. There are no scars, atrophied muscles, or discoloration of any kind. In reality, Pollard's leg was permanently disfigured.

Revealing mistake: When the fruit from Jack's "kebob" lands next to him, they gently plop to the ground intact, despite having fallen from a great height. Although Jack also lands intact, his fall was cushioned by a number of obstacles - the multiple wooden bridges, the bamboo pole catching between the rocks, the unwinding rope, etc. With the exception of the pineapples, the already-damaged fruits (from being speared) are too thin-skinned or the rinds too brittle to have survived an impact from the height, speed, and angle shown. These are the SAME fruits (papayas, mangos, and melons) that easily splattered into pulp when thrown at Jack by the native women with far less force, a slower speed, and at a close range.

Trivia: According to the film's writers, Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott, in the DVD commentary, the ship captain that Mercer kills is named Hawkins. He is the father of Jim Hawkins from Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island." In that novel, Jim's father, a ship captain, disappeared without a trace. Rossio and Elliott decided to provide their own explanation as to what happened to him.

Question: Was any explanation given as to why Anna Maria (Zoe Saldana) was eliminated from the Black Pearl's crew and also from the movie series? Female pirates weren't uncommon. I'd like to know why Disney deleted this interesting character.

raywest Premium member

Chosen answer: Without asking Disney directly, we may not know, but Zoe Saldana has made many films since the first Pirates movie, generally playing one of the lead roles - the most likely explanation is that she chose to focus on those projects and thus was unable to find a gap in her schedule to play a relatively minor character in Dead Man's Chest.

Question: Why did Bootstrap Bill join the dice game that Will played with Davy Jones? Will knew that Jones had the key to the chest on him, so just how did Bootstrap help him by also playing?

raywest Premium member

Chosen answer: Bootstrap did not want his son to lose and have to become an undead. By joining the game, he made it possible to save Will if it looked like Will was losing, by placing a ridiculously high bet himself. And as we can see, this is what happened. When Will was losing, and Davy Jones was about to call him a liar, Bootstrap makes his absurdly high claim, thereby sacrificing himself, but getting Will out of the game debt-free.
