A Car-Tune Portrait (1937)

(0 votes)

Directed by: Dave Fleischer

Starring: David Ross

Genres: Animated, Short

Audio problem: As the short starts, a hand is drawing several animals with musical instruments to be in the orchestra. And during this there is a music score with the animation. The second one is a pig with a tuba. As the left hand reaches in to pull the picture of the pig away, there is a glitch in the music, it cutting out for a moment with a rough scratchy pop sound, then coming back in as the right hand begins drawing a bird with a violin. Audio problem: When the lion walks on stage, the audience becomes completely quiet and all that can be heard is the sound of the lion's voice. Behind him is only a curtain that hides the orchestra from view. Once he finishes speaking, he turns around and the curtain opens, and suddenly you can hear the orchestra doing sound checks on their instruments and it is loud, the lion tapping his podium to quieten them so they know the concert is about to start. This means merely a curtain was keeping their sound check from being heard at all until it was open? (00:02:25)

Continuity mistake: As the orchestra begins playing, the lion is waving back and forth at each side as he conducts the music. In the far shot, his tail is not visible. But when it cuts to a close up of him, suddenly you can see his tail. It is large enough that the yellow tail should have been visible against his black suit in the far shot. (00:02:35)

Lion: Greetings, my good friends. You all, undoubtedly, have been under the delusion or shall I say, misapprehension, that we of the cartoon animal kingdom, are lacking in the finer sensibilities. Now to disprove this we shall ask you to forget our formal pranks and playfulness. We ask you in the name of dignity, and art to put yourselves in a receptive frame of mind. And not to expect of us the foolery, and clowning you generally associate us with. And now, to an all musical program.
