Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

New this week Trivia: At one point in time, this was going to be the final entry in the series to star Tom Cruise. As originally intended, Cruise (Ethan Hunt) would have retired from field work at the end of the film and become the new head of IMF, while Jeremy Renner would become the new series lead. This was reportedly in part due to several infamous incidents involving Cruise in the mid-2000's, including his notorious Oprah Winfrey interview. These events caused issues during the promotion of "Mission: Impossible III," and the studio was still nervous about them years later. Eventually, cooler heads prevailed, and Cruise was thankfully allowed to stay with the series.

Trivia: The number A113 (which appeared in Brad Bird's previous films The Incredibles and Ratatouille) makes two appearances here. The first is on the side of Hanaway's ring in the flashback sequence, and the second is verbally as Ethan's agent ID that he recites through the phone after he escapes from the hospital. (00:14:40)

Trivia: The language spoken in the video by Kurt Hendricks (in the IMF section of the train) is not Russian, despite the eagle and nametags in Russian, but Swedish, Mikael Nyqvist's (the actor portraying Kurt Hendricks) native language.

Trivia: During the flashback sequence to the failed letter drop mission, we see Hanaway's lens cam recognizing people in the crowd. One of these names is Jeffery Chernov, who is an executive producer on the movie.

Plot hole: When Ethan meets the Secretary in the car, he tells him that Hendricks was seen leaving the Kremlin with the nuclear launch device and deduces that he is Cobalt. The Secretary then gives Ethan the flash drive containing his mission, which Ethan reads on the train. Ethan then tells the rest of the team that - according to the mission - IMF believes that Hendricks is Cobalt and was seen leaving the Kremlin with the launch device - hence why he needs to buy the launch codes from Moreau. How could IMF have known about this information to put it on the drive, given that Ethan just told the Secretary in the car?

Suggested correction: Ethan asks Brandt to identify the man he saw (Hendricks). Brandt explains that he is a nuclear physicist with extreme views ("he's crazy). Ethan then refers to him as "Cobalt." IMF always knew, or at least suspected, that Hendricks was Cobalt. Ethan simply confirmed that he was the man in the Kremlin.
