Mortal Kombat

Revealing mistake: When Scorpion and Johnny Cage are in the forest, you can see a car drive by in the far left corner. You have to look really close though.

Revealing mistake: When Sonya grabs Kano with her legs, the tape is obviously sped up.

Revealing mistake: When the three heroes are confronted by Subzero and Scorpion on the junk, Scorpion extends his living grappler hook from his hand. As he does so, the hook does not quite move in synch with the hand, indicating its origin as inserted computer image.

Revealing mistake: When Scorpion explodes, if you pay attention, the explosion doesn't really make "sense." The first "burst" looks fine, but then, midway through the shot, some of the debris in the air suddenly vanishes or fades out a few frames before the second "burst" occurs. Additionally, the way the second "burst" happens gives it away as an added effect, as it doesn't really overlap the background properly. (It looks like an explosion that was filmed on a blue-screen and then just added over top of the footage, as it doesn't interact with the environment properly).

Suggested correction: Scorpion is an undead being fighting in another realm of existence. He doesn't necessarily have to explode in a way that "makes sense."

The mistake is about continuities that happen during the explosion. Not how Scorpion actually explodes.

The mistake pertains to issues with the somewhat shoddy execution of the effects, which are a result of the film's production. I don't think him being an undead fighter from another realm of existence is really a valid way to explain this away.

Revealing mistake: Watch closely when Scorpion breathes fire at the end of his fight with Johnny Cage. In the wide profile shot where we see the "stream" of fire shooting out and hitting Johnny's shield, if you look very closely, you can kind of make out some sort-of "structure" within the flame. It looks kind of like a pole. It looks like to accomplish the effect, they lit a "flame bar" or pole on fire so the flames would travel upwards, then comped it into the scene and rotated it using special effects to make the flames look like they were shooting sideways. Unfortunately, the pole/flame bar is still just barely visible in the film. (It's much easier to see on the Blu-Ray version, but can be made out on the DVD).

Trivia: Every character that fights in the movie does either two special moves from the games, either one move and one fatality: Johnny Cage does the Shadow Kick to Scorpion, and the nut punch to Goro. Scorpion does the living spear throw to Johnny Cage, and the fire breath fatality to Johnny Cage as well. Sonya does the leg grab move to Kano, and breaks his neck with the leg grab fatality. Liu Kang does the fireball move at Shang Tsung, and also does the bycicle kick at Reptile. SubZero does the ice blast at an OutWorld warrior and also does the ice shatter fatality to that same warrior. Rayden does the teleport, and uses his electricity bolts to stop SubZero and Scorpion from attacking the earth fighters. Shang Tsung does the soul steal fatality, and the morphs into Chan Kang. Reptile turns invisible to sneak attack Liu, and also does the acid spit.

Question: Something that was bugging me, but maybe someone who knows more about guns can help: On Shang Tsung's ship, Sub-Zero freezes & breaks off the front of Sonya's gun. What good does this do? The firing mechanisms are towards the rear of the gun. She could have fired off a shot, just not a second one. Freezing the front only locks the slide, part of the barrel and return spring, right? A round must have been chambered, otherwise it would be really stupid for her to be wielding it the way she does. Sub-Zero was not far away, so the shorter barrel shouldn't be much problem. Sub-Zero wouldn't have been able to freeze the bullet, given how he couldn't' stop that icicle that kills him later.

Answer: Sonya's pistol looks to be a Glock, Model 17 or 19. It looks like the barrel was broken off up to about the front end of the trigger guard. If she fired it like that, the bullet would have significantly reduced muzzle velocity because the recoil spring is gone (it would be in the front part of the weapon that was frozen and broken off.) The remaining part of the slide wouldn't have any resistance working against it. Not only would that result in less pressure inside the chamber during firing, but it would also most likely send the slide back into Sonya's face if she pulled the trigger.
