With the elimination of a sequence featuring an out-of-control Bette Midler robot and other scenes, this created numerous plot holes and inconsistencies. In a 2007 interview, Frank Oz admitted that the decisions he made were wrong and the film tanked because he "didn't follow his instincts".

Continuity mistake: It's raining when Joanna goes to the Men's Association to find her husband and children. When she walks in the door her hair is wet but her clothes are completely dry. (01:01:50)
