Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Question: Not including the Dursleys, is it known what happened to the rest of Harry's family - paternal and maternal grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.? Is their absence ever explained?

Answer: Although I don't think it's ever been mentioned, given their absence to date, his grandparents must be deceased. I believe that it's established in the books that James Potter was an only child, while Lily had only one sibling, Petunia, who married Vernon Dursley. Dudley is therefore his only cousin.

Question: When the Fat Lady is gone out of the portrait, Harry is carrying something in his hand. Someone told me it was a gift that Ron gave to Harry when he was in Hogsmeade. Does anyone know what it is?

Answer: It's supposed to be the Sneakoscope that in the book is given to him by Ron at the very beginning of the book.

Question: In the scene where aunt Marge gets blown up and floats away, what is the music being played? It made the scene a whole lot funnier.

Answer: It's the original score by John Williams.

Question: What is the spell that Hermione casts to free Sirius when he is locked in Hogwarts? It is not alohamora. It sounds like bombarda.

Answer: It is Bombarda, or something to that effect. Alohamora only opens a regular doorlock, a good old padlock obvoiusly calls for a different, more powerful spell.

Question: Since when do Dementors fly? Gliding is different than flying.

Answer: I think any glider pilot would take issue with that last statement. This is a choice by the filmmakers in their portrayal of the Dementors - the books never state, as far as I can remember, that the Dementors aren't capable of leaving the ground, so it's not necessarily an incorrect interpretation. J.K. Rowling is consulted during the making of these films, so she presumably has no problem with this.

Question: I don't remember a choir in the book. Was it added or is it actually in the book somewhere? If it was in the book, where was it?

Answer: No choir in the book. It was added for the film.

Question: There is a trailer out that ends with a girl knocking on a door and saying "housekeeping," and the door flies open and there is a big shrieking noise. Then as the door slams shut the girl says, "I'll come back later." Has anyone any idea of what part in the books this is?

Answer: That scene is not in the book.

Question: Why are Hermione, Harry, and Ron wearing 'muggle' clothes during most of the teaser trailer?

Answer: We can't be 100% sure of any answer until the movie actually comes out. All people know is that the new director has made some changes to the style of the movie and characters. Including, but not limited to a redesign of their uniforms, some hairstyles and apparently more time in muggle clothes.

Question: Why do Hermione's blue shoes look different in each scene? Like when they are running up the hill just before Buckbeak is executed compared to when Buckbeak chases werewolf Lupin away.

THE GAMER NEXT DOOR

Chosen answer: Either the lighting made the shoes' color appear different, or she was wearing different shoes at different times when the scene was being filmed. One scene is filmed over multiple days, and actors usually have more than one set of a particular costume in case the clothing is damaged, gets dirty, etc. so her wardrobe might have changed slightly throughout and she could have been wearing a different pair of shoes.

Question: When Harry and Sirius are talking out of the whomping Willow, why was Hermione untying Ron's shoelaces? Was it to ease the pain?

THE GAMER NEXT DOOR

Answer: It didn't look like she was untying his shoe laces to me. It looked more like she was pulling down Ron's sock to get a better look at his wounds.

She's just trying to asses his injuries.

Maybe after they got out of the willow but I'm referring to when Harry and Sirius were talking.

Chosen answer: She could be untying them because one of his legs is broken and sometimes a broken limb can become swollen.

What does that have to do with Hermione untying the shoelaces?

Answer: I think she took off his shoe to get a better look at his leg. It can be kind of hard for someone to examine a wound if someone is wearing a shoe on their foot.

But she didn't take off his shoe.

Question: Why did Hermione stop Harry from going after Pettigrew while Lupin was transforming?

THE GAMER NEXT DOOR

Answer: For one thing, they're kids, and Hermione knows Harry is ill-equipped to handle this and he will just run off in a blind rage with no thought about what ti do. Hermione is methodical and always thinks before she acts and follows the rules. She wants Harry, who is impetuous, to do the same, and for them to work together.

Question: Is it possible to see Hermione when they are all sleeping in the great hall?

THE GAMER NEXT DOOR

Answer: Unlikely she would be seen. The boys would be separated from the girls. I watched the YouTube clip, and there didn't appear to be any girls sleeping in the Great Hall, at least not in that section of it.

I will add that in the books, its stated that "the three of them" grabbed a sleeping bag and moved to a corner. So while we may not see her in the movie, in the books she was present with Ron and Harry.

Question: How does all that dirt or whatever it is get on Hermione's pink hoodie?

THE GAMER NEXT DOOR

Answer: From all the activity she was doing, such as being flung around by the Whomping Willow, crawling through the tunnel, being in the Shrieking Shack, running away from Lupin (when he's in his werewolf form) and so on.

raywest Premium member

But where was it first seen?

It doesn't really need to be seen for it to happen. If it was gained from being hit over by the willow then they're not going to show a close up of the dirt transferring on to her clothes.

Ssiscool Premium member

It's first really noticeable when they're inside the Shrieking Shack. Before then it was too dark to be seen.

Question: Just before Sirius grabs Ron's leg, why didn't Harry and Hermione start running then? Why did they just stand still and watch?

THE GAMER NEXT DOOR

Answer: Because they were confused and surprised by Sirius' sudden appearance while he was in his dog form. It took them a few moments to collect themselves and react to the situation.

Question: Why didn't Hermione cast immobilus on the Whomping willow when they were running after Ron after Sirius drags him into the shrieking shack? Or after it hit them back and they tried to get in themselves?

THE GAMER NEXT DOOR

Answer: They didn't know a simple magic spell would work on it. Students were forbidden to approach the tree because it was so dangerous. In the book, the Willow was turned "on" and "off" with a secret switch located at the base of the trunk. Only the Hogwarts teachers and some staff knew about it.

Question: After Buckbeak's execution and Scabbers bites Ron and escapes, why is Ron more shocked and upset about Scabbers biting him instead of running away?

THE GAMER NEXT DOOR

Answer: He is his pet rat, he probably runs away all the time but always comes back.

lionhead

Answer: Ron is shocked that his beloved pet would bite him, something Scabbers (Pettigrew) had never done before and was out of character.

Question: There is a fanfic that I am looking for that is a version of Prisoner of Azkaban. I've been looking for it for a long time. The only helpful thing I can say is the 6th chapter is called "Harry protects Hermione." Does anyone know where I can find it?

THE GAMER NEXT DOOR

Answer: You could try fanfiction.net. It has fictional stories written by many people.

I have. That's where I first found it years ago.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban mistake picture Video

Continuity mistake: When Malfoy and his friends bother Ron and Hermione, Harry shows up and messes with the three boys. He grabs hold of Malfoy's feet, lifts them in the air and pulls him across the snow. In the first close-up of the soles of Malfoy's boots, not a speck of snow is on them, though he was just walking in it. Then in the next close-up, his feet still in the air, the soles are now covered in snow. (01:02:45)
