Corrected entry: When we see the gravestone of Wilson, it doesn't match that he was 19 years old when killed. According to his headstone, he was born in November of 1948 and killed in October of 1967 so he would have been 18, not 19 as stated by his father.

Correction: He was a month or less from turning 19 (it could have been a couple days), it's definitely close enough to call him 19.

Corrected entry: Kovic mentions on the beach that he is into his second tour in Vietnam, yet he does not wear the Combat Infantryman's Badge at any time on his uniform.

Correction: The CIB is awarded to Army and Special Forces personell, not to the Marines.

Visible crew/equipment: When the guys walk from the deli, talking about which girl they are taking to the prom, you see a reflection in the cars parked along the side, of a crew member walking with a boom mic.

Ron Kovic: We went to Vietnam to stop communism... We shell women and children.
Mrs. Kovic: You didn't shoot women and children! What are you saying?
Ron Kovic: That was the war, communism, the incidious evil! They told us to go.
Mrs. Kovic: Yes, yes that's what they told us.
Ron Kovic: Thou shalt not kill, Mom. Thou shalt not kill women and children! Thou shalt not kill! Remember? Isn't that what you taught us? Isn't that what they taught us?
Mrs. Kovic: Stop it! Stop it.

Trivia: After Charlie Sheen performed brilliantly in such highly-acclaimed Oliver Stone films as "Platoon" and "Wall Street," film maker Stone had a face-to-face meeting with Sheen to discuss him starring in "Born on the Fourth of July." Charlie Sheen came away from the meeting confident that the lead role belonged to him. However, after several weeks, Charlie Sheen was stunned and infuriated to learn (from his brother, Emilio Estevez) that Oliver Stone had chosen Tom Cruise for the lead role. Stone never even bothered to call Sheen with the news.

Question: There's a scene in this movie that I've never understood. When Ron Kovic is in the VA hospital, there's one scene where he wakes up in the middle of the night, and looks up and sees something, and screams. What did he see that made him scream?

Answer: He doesn't see anything. He hears his blood dripping back into the makeshift machine the doctors have set up and realizes it isn't working properly. In the previous scene he was told that if they couldn't get the machine to work, he would never walk again.
