Dracula

Continuity mistake: When Lucy tells Mina that she's accepted Arthur's marriage proposal, we see the garden pond at the bottom of the stairs leading up to Lucy's bedroom, which has a pedestal in the middle, topped with a tall, pointed pyramid sculpture. When Dracula enters Lucy's garden maze after the Demeter docks in London, the camera pans up the stairs and back again, and the pyramid has a different shape and is much smaller. When Lucy walks down the stairs in a trance, the large pyramid is back. (00:36:40 - 00:40:20)

Continuity mistake: When Dracula drops Mina off the coach, and in the establishing shot of the scene where Van Helsing tasks Quincey with guarding Lucy, there is a giant fence outside Hillingham, Lucy's estate, with considerable distance between the fence and the estate. However, the opening wide shot of the scene where Dracula arrives in London shows that the building is facing the edge of a giant hill, with no fence outside (it is definitely the same side of the building, because the architecture is identical). Factual error: When the Demeter comes to London, there is a wide shot of the ship docking, with Hillingham sitting on top of a hill overlooking the city of London - you can see Big Ben, the House of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. However, when Mina opens Jonathan's letter earlier in the film, there is a close-up of the envelope and the address of Hillingham Estate is not London: It states that Hillingham is situated in Faversham, Kent, a town located approximately 50 English miles away from London. Character mistake: When Jonathan is closing the transactions in Dracula's castle, there is a close-up of Renfield's card, which says "R. N. Reinfeild." However, in the first scene where Dr. Seward is recording his diary on the phonograph cylinder, he refers to the character as "R. M. Renfield" - the same as in the book, and the end titles spell the character's name as "R. M. Renfield", like in the novel. (00:16:30 - 00:23:20)

Continuity mistake: When Renfield blurts out to Dr. Seward "I need lives for the master", he puts his right hand over his mouth, but in the next shot, he's holding his left hand over his mouth. (00:25:30)

Factual error: At the cinematograph, Mina says to Dracula, "How can you call this science? Do you think Madame Curie would invite such comparisons? Really!" The movie takes place in year 1897, but Marie Curie's works weren't published until 1898. (00:49:30)

Continuity mistake: Before the wreath of garlic falls down on Lucy's bedside table, it can be seen hanging on the lamp, but in the previous shot, as well as earlier in the scene, there was no garlic on the lamp. When Lucy grabs the vase from the bedside table a couple of shots later, the garlic that fell down on the table has mysteriously disappeared. (01:09:35)

Revealing mistake: When Mina and Dracula are at the restaurant, as Dracula says, "The most beautiful place in all creation", there is an extreme close-up of his eye. If you look at the left side of the purple iris, you can see the edges of Gary Oldman's contact lens. After Mina describes Transylvania's beauty, there is another close-up of Dracula's eye (this time with a different color) and you can once again see the edges of the contact lens on the left side of the iris. Continuity mistake: During the crypt scene, the shots of Lucy lying down in the stone coffin and the following shot where she sits up and vomits blood on Van Helsing, show dramatic difference in the depth of the coffin. (01:27:00 - 01:27:05)

Continuity mistake: When Dracula stamps the paper in the castle, in the wideshot, the wax seal is several centimetres away from his signature, but in the close-up, it is right next to his name. Also, his signature differs slightly between the two shots. (00:15:05)

Continuity mistake: When Van Helsing tasks Quincey with guarding Lucy, as he asks, "Do you understand me?", both of Van Helsing's arms are down by his side and Quincey is holding onto the hat on his head with his left hand, while the rifle in his right hand is down by his waist. In the next shot, Van Helsing is suddenly gripping Quincey's coat and Quincey's left arm is down by his side and he is holding the rifle in his right hand up by his head (before bringing it down to waist level again). (01:17:15)

Continuity mistake: When Van Helsing hypnotizes Mina, the candle he is holding changes throughout the scene: In the shots facing Van Helsing, long pieces of wax are sticking up from the top of the candle, while in the shots facing Mina, they're gone. (01:43:40)

Continuity mistake: When Dracula bumps into Mina on the street, the newspaper he just bought is tucked under his left arm, but in the next shot, when the camera pans downward as he catches the bottle, it is gone. (00:45:45)

Factual error: At the beginning of the movie, it was stated that Constantinople was captured by the Turks in 1462. The Turks actually captured it in 1453. (00:00:35)

Continuity mistake: After Dracula slits his chest so Mina can drink his blood, his hair alternates between being over/behind his shoulder, depending on the camera angle: In the shots facing Dracula, his hair is hanging over his shoulder, but in the shots from behind him, facing Mina, his hair is behind his back. (01:40:10)

Dracula: The blood is the life. And it shall be mine.
