Pvt. Jack Bell: Love. Where does it come from? Who lit this flame in us? No war can put it out, conquer it. I was a prisoner. You set me free.

Private Witt: How did we loose all the good that was given us? Let it slip away. Scattered careless.

Lt. Col. Gordon Tall: You feel like a son to me, John. You know what my son does? He's a bait salesman.

First Sgt. Edward Welsh: What difference do you think you can make, one man in all this madness?

Private Witt: I can take anything you dish out. I am twice the man you are.

Continuity mistake: When that one captain is refusing to obey the orders of Nick Nolte he says the time is 13:21 but his watch says it's actually 14:31. Then a couple of seconds later the time is 14:45. Their whole conversation was shown and there was no time in between and it was much shorter than 15 minutes. (01:03:00)

Question: When Witt is in the clearing surrounded by Japanese riflemen, does anybody know what the Japanese soldier was saying to Witt before he shot him?

Answer: He said "I don't want to kill you. Don't move."
