The Lord of the Rings

Question: During the opening scene, where it explains the creation of the ring, Sméagol finding and Bilbo taking it, was the entire scene animated or were live actors used before switching to animation?

Answer: This is from Wikipedia: The (1978) film is notable for its extensive use of rotoscoping, a technique in which scenes are first shot in live-action (human actors), then traced onto animation cels. It uses a hybrid of traditional cel animation and rotoscoped live action footage.

Sam: Straight stairs, winding stairs what comes after that?
Gollum: We shall see, oh yes... We shall see.

Trivia: Longtime Hollywood film composer Leonard Rosenman scored the soundtrack of this 1978 Ralph Bakshi animated film, which was not a particular box office success. Seven years later, Leonard Rosenman recycled portions of the Lord of the Rings soundtrack when he also scored the soundtrack of "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home"; in fact, Star Trek IV's stirring title theme music is the same music as Lord of the Ring's final battle fanfare, note-for-note.
