Trivia: In the film, the two transfer students are Kiriyama, the silent killer, and Kawada, the winner of a previous Battle Royale. In the original novel, only Kawada was the transfer student; Kiriyama was in the same class selected for this game of death. He was the main antagonist.Allister Cooper, 2011
Trivia: The filmmakers originally had an ending in which Alex grabs the cable that lies on Clear's car, Alex catches fire and dies. Then Clear gets her baby and Carter survives. The test audience didn't like this, so the filmmakers shot another ending in which Alex is decapitated by a crashing police helicopter. But again, the test audience didn't like the fact that Alex dies, so they shot the finish with the billboard, which took 6 days to film and cost nearly $2,000,000.
Trivia: In the scene where Lenny is on the phone describing how Sammy Jenkis ends up in a home due to the death of his wife, it shows Sammy sitting in a chair looking towards the camera. Sammy is temporarily blocked from our view by someone walking in front of him. As the person passes by, it is not Sammy that re-appears, but Lenny. To see it well, you will have to use the frame-by-frame mode. There are about 5 visible frames of Lenny in the home, and then it cuts back to him inside the motel room talking on the phone again. Trivia: Director Mathieu Kassovitz has two cameo appearances in the film, one as the hooded killer in the doctor's house who shoots at Jean Reno and another as the voice over the CB talking about the Lada car to Vincent Cassel. He was also supposed to have played the role of a policeman in this film but the character was dropped.
Trivia: Wim Wenders made the movie in a real hotel in a rather run-down area in LA. Throughout the shooting he had to deal with unwanted extras interfering with the shooting. One lovely example is the scene where Skinner talks to Tom Tom in a car in front of a porn cinema, and a lady in red, who is seen in the background, all of a sudden puts her nose to the window to have a good look at Mel Gibson. Trivia: Rustin Parr shows up in the movie. In the general store there is a man on the floor "fixing" the fridge. He doesn't move in his scenes and seems dead. The only time he speaks is in Chapter 15 after Kim says "Excuse me" and he says "I'm finished now" Rustin Parr was said to have walked into a general store after killing the Burkittsville 7 and saying the same thing. Also "The Secret Confession of Rustin Parr" by DA Sterns shows a picture of Rustin Parr played by the same actor in the movie.
