Plot hole: Maria describes in lurid detail how Anna was arrested by the Germans and tortured by being severely whipped, leaving her with gruesome scars all over her back. She also says that Anna hasn't spoken a word to anyone since she escaped from captivity. How, then, does Maria (or anyone else) know about the scars? Nobody saw them (they don't exist) and Anna obviously didn't tell anyone about them.
Revealing mistake: During several of the driving sequences, the teenager in the driver's seat turns the steering wheel - but the rear screen projection keeps the car "moving" in a straight line. And it's particularly ironic in light of the movie's "big message" that the students here bear no resemblance to real-life teenagers in any real school. They're all slim, trim, athletic and model-gorgeous, as well as all-too-obviously not teenagers at all. (Because US child labor laws severely restrict the hours that underage actors can work, many films "cheat" by having youthful 20-somethings play the teens.)Jean G
Other mistake: When they're roping the mustangs, the "stallion" doesn't have the genitals of a stallion.
Continuity mistake: During the scene when Natalie Woods goes with Toots to make-out point after the dance and jumps in the water, it's supposed to be late at night. But when they cut back and forth between shots at the water falls and Warren Beatty waiting for Natalie on her porch, all the scenes at the falls were shot in broad daylight, while the ones of Warren on the porch are at night.HuskyMiller
Factual error: At the conclusion, the island gets blown apart by a volcanic eruption while the children and the hospital staff watch from aboard a schooner off the coast. A volcanic explosion of this magnitude would have created pyroclastic surges that would overtake the boat, killing everyone aboard. (During the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa a pyroclastic surge stretched 30 miles to the coast of Sumatra, killing residents of some villages along that coast before the explosion that triggered the devastating tsunami (which killed over 30,000 people).
Continuity mistake: When Mr Stringer picks up Miss Marple from Akinthorpe Hall in his car, Alexander, as a harmless joke, has tied a string of old shoes and empty cans to the car and put a sign 'Just Married' on the back of the car. As the car first drives off, the sign is seen falling away, but when we get a different shot, the sign is well secured.kh1616
Revealing mistake: The sea creature Gorgo is paraded through the streets of London on a flatbed tractor trailer, and an off-screen American newsman announces the monster's arrival at Battersea Park, where it will be exhibited at Dorkin's Circus. The announcer introduces the creature's owners as they step from their motorcade, saying, "And our own Mr. Dorkin, of Dorkin's Circus, in the checkered suit." Problem is, Mr. Dorkin is wearing a plain gray flannel suit. Closeup shots of Mr. Dorkin over the next 40 seconds reveal that the suit is not checkered, not plaid, not striped, not patterned in any way at all. It's simply a plain gray suit. Apparently, the announcer's pre-recorded lines were never modified after changes were made in costuming. (00:34:05 - 00:35:00)Charles Austin Miller
