Factual error: In the scene where we first meet Rosie, it opens with a shot of the house and then goes inside, passing by some pictures of Rosie and her husband. One of them, a picture of their wedding, says "Frank and Rosie - Wedding 1948", but then when Rosie is talking about how her husband will know how much she still loves him after all those years, Robbie says that he hopes that he and Linda will be as happy as Rosie and her husband on their 50th anniversary. If they got married in 1948, they would be closer to their 40th wedding anniversary. Since the movie is supposed to take place in 1985, this would actually be their 37th wedding anniversary. Factual error: Helicopter rotor blades do not unfold by themselves and there is no way to unfold them from inside the helicopter. A trained mechanic with the right tools and equipment (including the proper ladder for the job) will take a minimum of twenty minutes to rig a four bladed rotor, and that's if (s)he's in a hurry. An airborne (i.e. falling) helicopter? Forget it. (00:07:40)
Factual error: George comes up with the idea to raise money via a public share issue in Channel 62 around mid-morning, and promptly announces the telethon on the air and by midnight of the same day they have the money they need. One problem. Even if George had access to a compliant attorney and Channel 62 was already a company authorised to issue shares, a public issue would take at least ten days to organise. There are all sorts of notice periods and filing dates to which the share issuer must adhere. I know - I've done it.
Factual error: There is no way Josie could have heard Alan M at the concert. First of all, she has a headphone in her ear, so she can hear herself sing, and second, the crowd is so loud, it's hard to hear people in the front row, never mind several rows back where Alan M was bodysurfing.
Factual error: When Woody is looking at Andy's high school graduation picture in his room, there is a concert ticket in the upper left corner of the screen and another one just below it for a band called "Humble Beginnings" both with a date of Saturday, November 17, 2009. This date fell on a Tuesday. (00:11:15)
Factual error: In the begining at the bridge ceremony, the band plays Manhattan Beach by John Philip Sousa. However, Manhattan Beach was composed in 1893. (00:00:50)
Factual error: When the Betty Doll takes off, there is a rapid fire selection of different shots of how the craze is impacting the nation. During the baseball scene, the shot starts with a L.A. Dodger (Eric Karros) hitting a pitch from a New York Mets pitcher (appears to be John Franco). The shot changes to that of the baseball going into the stands... in Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs.
Factual error: Laredo drives the ship out of the starship docking station and scrapes the main hull on the walls. This would not be possible without either scraping the wings first, as they are much wider than the main ship, or turning nearly sideways, which they clearly don't.
Factual error: When John Cusack puts Springsteen on his LP-player, he places the needle at the start of the record. The song that plays is the studio version of "The River." Therefore, the album has to be "The River," which is a double album, but "The River" is not at the start of either of the two LPs, but is the last song on LP #1. (00:18:10)
Factual error: When Gantz fires Nolte's gun at Nolte, he fires 8 bullets out of a six shooter. (00:18:45)
Factual error: The Robin that comes along in the movie is an American Robin, not a British Robin.
Factual error: In a few scenes at the hotel by Heathrow Airport, several British Airways aircraft are seen, all with the current paint scheme instead of 1995's.
